The Arch, the Marina and the Meeting of Seas
Cabo San Lucas is a resort town at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, in Baja California Sur, known for its marina, the rock formations of Land's End and its position where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. It is the more energetic half of Los Cabos, with a busy waterfront lined with restaurants, boutiques and boats. The natural arch, El Arco, is the destination's emblem, framed by cliffs and sea lions on the rocks.
Beaches are close at hand. Medano Beach, the main town beach, is a long, sociable stretch of sand with water-sports and beach clubs, while Lover's Beach, reached by water taxi near the arch, offers a quiet strip where both seas appear within sight. Santa Maria and Chileno Bay, along the Corridor to the north-east, give calmer and clearer water for snorkelling, and the contrast between these shores makes planning a pleasure.
Fishing, Whales and Sunset Cruises
Sport fishing put Cabo on the map, and marlin, tuna and dorado remain the draw for charter boats leaving the marina at dawn. From about December to April, humpback whales arrive in the warm waters, and whale watching tours leave from the harbour. Sunset cruises glide past the arch as the sky turns orange, a long-standing favourite for couples and groups. For land-based adventures, desert quad tours and horseback rides explore the rugged hills behind the town.
Dining ranges from beachfront seafood shacks to chef-led restaurants with sea views, and the town is known for fish tacos, fresh ceviche and Baja flavours, often paired with Baja wines. The Cabo marina and nightlife add energy after dark. A tourist board can use Cabo San Lucas to show a lively, sun-filled side of the cape, balanced against the calmer art and heritage of San Jose del Cabo.
